post jerry years aside, there is scant talk around here about MR....PHILLIP LESH.....

PLEASE PEOPLE! Let us resolve to heap more praise on phil's contribution in the next year, or, hell with that, HOW ABOUT, right NOW!

i defy you to click this photo and NOT sit slack-jawed in front of your computer or get up and DANCE around your office!....

[...]

PLEASE PEOPLE, I beg you.... if you know of a MONSTER BASS PART that can so much as BREATH in the vicinity of this DART THROWING MASTERPIECE by the MASTER BASSIST.... please LET ME KNOW.... (and don't go calling "Havona" at me.... i love that too, but NO ONE could put it down like this.... not any one i ever heard.... this is the kind of sustained assault that makes even the Allman Brothers grow faint.)

(Don't be afraid, please link to your favorite lesh masterworks here. i know there are more dancin's, franklin's, playin's and the like that are worthy of attention.)

He Live's: Wouldn't you rather listen to "I Will Take You Home" than any of that Phil stuff?

I'll leave it to the professionals to point you in the right direction. I ain't often right but I've never been wrong, "10/12/1968" is the answer to any question.

All the best,

Of course that's the answer. And if not, then it's 12-29-68.

Hey, you two should be sure to check out the 66 show recommended by Monster, 2-25-66, Ivar Theatre I think, as Phil does some great bass work on the songs therein, within a yr of taking up the damn thing, right? Listen to how he bends the notes in the blues tunes...

William Tell: ....I was not going to reply to your post because it is too unbelievable to believe ....however, we are talking about the "Grateful Dead Universe" here and we all know about the synchronicity that exists even though it remains unspoken most of the time: ....with chills running up-and-down my spine I'll tell you that I literally just finished listening to 02-25-1966 and went back and was listening to "Hey Little One" as I read your post. [Jerry just sang, "..and she sang a FATAL tune.." in "Cold Rain & Snow" that he eventually changed to "fateful tune" ...you dig lyrics so I figure I can tell you that little tid-bit.] ....I don't know what the "real" date(s) of these performances are from and it doesn't matter. Pig doin' that "Good Morning Lil School Girl > You Don't Love Me > Good Morning Lil School Girl" is ....it just IS. And "King Bee" ...it just IS as well. As well as "Stealin" (2nd one listed that doesn't get cut) ..but I digress, they've returned to take me for another spin around the rings of Saturn with this "Caution" ..... this show is from 42-yrs/ago almost to the date; their compositions are timeless.

I gotta go talk to China Cat over there on Neptune,

[...]nice call ASHES.... this represents PHIL in PHULL on solo mode beautifully!

and yet, he is still LOCKED IN on Billy perfectly! (... off to the arrow)

YES!

the sunshine daydream video is brilliant AND contains plenty of phil -- strutting, plucking and popping -- bringing a perspective and coming from angles all his own.... LOVE PHIL!

If you haven't seen the 4/17/72 video, here's a recent addition to YouTube - there are other versions (and other songs) scattered throughout the site. Check out 03:06 and especially 03:13.
